Giveaway AND Contest: Method products!

The good people at method just sent me a box of 200 samples of Smarty Dish dishwasher detergent. I get to share the love, and so do you!

Each little sample packet inclues one Fragrance Free Smarty Dish dishwasher detergent “tab” and one coupon for $1 off any method product.

I’m planning to send (while supplies last) four samples to each person who asks: two to keep and two to give away. Instead of entering the giveaway in the comments, just email me your mailing address - heylaurawhat (at) gmail (dot) com.

Might you want to try Smarty Dish? I think so. I just used it on a load of dishes and was quite impressed. It seemed to get my dishes a lot cleaner than the current “natural”...

New giveaway will be posted tomorrow. :)

Hey Laura, what’s an earth friendly, cost-effective way to “brown bag it”?

Kristina writes:

I brown bag it every day at work.  I put everything in a cute reusable bag (one that I think you gave me, actually), but I don’t have any small reusable bags.  I waste a lot of plastic baggies on packaging my sandwiches, carrot sticks, and whatever else.  How can I keep things clean, cute, and fresh with less waste?
P.S. I’m really not all that interested in bento boxes.

Wonderful question, Kristina! I was actually just researching this for myself the other day, so I have a bunch of resources for you. I can absolutely point you in the direction of clean, cute and fresh food-keeping. Oh, the cuteness that abounds nowadays in reusable snack and sandwich bags! Just...

Hey Laura, where are the healthy KitchenAid recipes?

Valinda asks:

Back in May I had the incredible good fortune to win a KitchenAid stand mixer at a conference I went to. I’ve made ice cream (shelled out extra for the attachment; so worth it!), bread, cookies, and mashed potatoes. With the holidays coming up, I’m tempted to just churn out a bunch of cookies, but I’d also like to use it to make something that could pass as healthy. Any suggestions or ideas?

See? This is exactly why I don’t have a KitchenAid. As much as I love these beauties, I don’t need any more encouragement to make cookies!

There are in fact healthier ways to use your KitchenAid mixer, other than use it as shiny countertop decoration. But it’s going to cost you!

CLOSED: Contest! Method Multi-Surface Spray

Woo hoo! The kind folk at method sent me a box of 8 Multi-Surface Cleaner sprays to give away to my readers!

I’ve been a fan of method since their very early days; a method advocate before they even started their “People Against Dirty” program!

In 2002, when Karim Rashid first started working with their bottle design, I read an article about method in How magazine - a design industry rag. Being a sucker for great design, I bought my first bottle of method (then called all-purpose) spray in the French Lavender scent.

I went home and cleaned my counters with it. It smelled lovely! I enjoyed cleaning with it so much that I found myself searching out other...

Hey Laura, let’s talk about babywearing

Michelle writes:

My neighbor has a 2 week old who is still pretty small (don’t think she’s hit 7lbs yet) and she wants to do a carrier (especially when walking her lab/australian shepherd mix).  I got her a mei tai type carrier (though the pouch seems much smaller than when I had a baby hawk), and i think she has an ergo type one also.  I still need to help her figure out the mai tai wrap in general, but she is worried about which one gives the best support for this newborn time.  Thoughts on how to use what she has best or other carriers that are better for this (and future) stage?

First of all, Michelle, you are an awesome neighbor! The gift of babywearing is one that just keeps on...

Snippets: Gifts for New and Expecting Parents

A while ago (before I started this blog), a friend of mine asked for some suggestions for useful and unique gifts for new and expecting parents. I’ve expanded my original answer just a bit for posting here. These aren’t your run-of-the-mill diaper cakes and layettes! ;)

Big Stuff
If the new parents are particularly special to you, or if you are feeling particularly generous, here are some big ticket items I highly recommend.

Miyo Baby Baby Hammock - Just what it sounds like - it’s a great bed alternative for the first 5-7 months. I like the Miyo best because it is simple and has a really beautiful looking stand, but there are other brands/styles like: the Kanoe, the Hushamok, which has a...
