Stuff I've tried.
I was recently fortunate enough to receive a fabulous sample pack of agave nectars from Wholesome Sweeteners to review with my moms’ group and on my blog. I have been using agave nectar for a couple years now, but they are introducing some new products that have me (and my kids) all kinds of excited!
Before I get into the review, let me say a little about agave nectar and sugary stuff in general.
Hey Laura, what about sugar?
Sugar is sugar is sugar is sugar. It is an empty carbohydrate that is not meant to be a quality food substance. Sugar should be a treat, a flourish, a small part of your well balanced diet. Just because a sugar is “all natural” or “organic” or “raw” or “low glycemic”...
A friend introduced me to the magic of artisan roasted single-origin cocoa beans, and I’m totally hooked.
I’m not a coffee drinker, but I often like a hot drink that isn’t tea.
Crio Brü is most akin to coffee. You can’t go in expecting a typical cup of “hot chocolate.” It lacks the thick, creamy mouth feel because it isn’t full of sugar and fat.
My husband likes the soporific effect Crio Brü has on him (I don’t notice it at all, but then I’m not a 2-3 espresso a day junkie!), and I like that it really takes the edge of my late afternoon snack attacks.
If you’re looking for a warming drink that isn’t coffee or tea, but doesn’t have the calories and fat of most other alternatives,...Continue reading
I am only halfway through this book (I had to return it to the library and am now awaiting my Amazon purchase!), but I wanted to link it up here for my readers.
I haven’t talked too much about my personal parenting journey (that’s something I intend to do more of this year), but suffice it to say, the last 5 years have been rough. Like, “Is something terribly wrong here?” kind of rough.
Of course, something was terribly wrong for the first year (food allergies), and recovering from that first year was rocky, but I kept waiting for things to get easier in subsequent years, and they haven’t really. I’m dealing with new challenges as developmental stages pass, but there hasn’t yet been a...Continue reading
We just tried out Kashi’s new Peanutty Chocolate Layered Granola Bars.
My kids loved them. You really can’t go wrong with anything chocolate in my house!
And, because my kids don’t really get any refined sugar in their diets, they didn’t bat an eye at the slightly off flavor of the date-sweetened chocolate!
I read some other reviews of this product on the Kashi site, and people definitely had complaints about the taste and texture of the chocolate. Because Kashi uses predominantly dates to sweeten this granola bar, it’s going to taste different to palates that are used to the overly-sweet flavor of cane sugar.
I personally appreciate the lower glycemic index of the dates, and the...Continue reading
I was fortunate enough to score some fabulous Xlear product sample kits that I get to share with THREE lucky winners. While they’re sort of geared toward kids (there’s a baby toothbrush and toothpaste included), these Xylitol-based products are great for general use. (If you don’t know a baby who might like the kiddie toothbrush, let me know and I’ll take it out of your kit to be given away at a later date!)
I’ve been using Xlear nasal spray for my and my kids’ stuffy noses for a couple years now and love it. I recently switched to Xylitol sweetened gum and feel much better about popping a piece of good-for-your-teeth gum in my mouth when I’m apart from my toothbrush. The cute little...Continue reading
I’ve reviewed other Zoe Organics products before, but the Extreme Cream is new and worth its own mention.
The Extreme Cream is aptly named. It is intense! A little goes a very long way. I can fully moisturize my icky winter-dry hands with a nob the size of a pea.
I love the whipped butter like texture of this stuff when you first pull it out of the jar. It gets melty and creamy as soon as you rub it between your palms, so it applies very easily. There is no real scent to it since it contains no essential oils - just the wonderful rich moisturizing ingredients; this makes it an excellent choice for very small babies or individuals with...Continue reading
The good people at method just sent me a box of 200 samples of Smarty Dish dishwasher detergent. I get to share the love, and so do you!
Each little sample packet inclues one Fragrance Free Smarty Dish dishwasher detergent “tab” and one coupon for $1 off any method product.
I’m planning to send (while supplies last) four samples to each person who asks: two to keep and two to give away. Instead of entering the giveaway in the comments, just email me your mailing address - heylaurawhat (at) gmail (dot) com.
Might you want to try Smarty Dish? I think so. I just used it on a load of dishes and was quite impressed. It seemed to get my dishes a lot cleaner than the current “natural”...
